Question: But didn’t Trump disavow Project 2025 once it became really unpopular?
- Answer: Yes. However, Trump is not known for his truthfulness, and 140 of the authors of Project 2025 are people who served in the Trump administration directly.
- The Heritage Foundation, which authored Project 2025, has regularly published a policy agenda for incoming conservative presidents.
- According to Reuters: [Project 2025 is] “the ninth edition in the “Mandate for Leadership” series, the first of which was published in 1981, during the Reagan administration.
- “The Reagan administration implemented nearly half of the ideas included in the first edition by the end of his first year in office, while the Trump administration embraced nearly 64% of the 2016 edition’s policy solutions after one year,” the Heritage Foundation said in a press release announcing Project 2025.
- Some of the notable authors of this most recent version include Dr. Ben Carson, ChristopherMiller and Russ Vought, who are all former Cabinet secretaries under Trump.” Each wrote a chapter.
